2024 End-of-the-Year Review of the PAWI Group AG
2024 was characterised by our new group strategy: “We are becoming more innovative and sustainable, more attractive, more international, and smarter.” With this guiding principle in mind, we implemented numerous projects that have further strengthened our position as one of the leading producers of high-quality packaging solutions made of cardboard and paper.
A year of innovation, sustainability and growth
More innovative and sustainable
Our focus was on strengthening our innovative power and commitment to sustainability. In Winterthur, we introduced the laser-cutting concept, a flexible solution that makes it possible to produce chocolate packaging in small quantities, with various motifs and colours, without costly punching tools – a clear competitive advantage.
We were also able to successfully advance our sustainability goals: Switching to district heating from Stadtwerke Winterthur has significantly reduced our carbon footprint. In Warsaw, we have replaced metallised cardboard with cold embossing and hot foil stamping with innovative lacquer effects to significantly reduce the environmental impact. In addition, a standardised traceability system was introduced in view of the upcoming BRC hygiene certification. This system not only enables compliance with legal standards, but also provides valuable information on the origin of the raw materials. This enables us to ensure that they come from sustainable sources and have been produced in an environmentally friendly way. Another highlight is our participation in a university project dedicated to the development of a biodegradable coating. This is intended to make cardboard grease and water repellent and thus replace PE or PET film laminates.
These and other measures culminated in winning the European Carton Excellence Award in the “Sustainability” category for the plastic-free Medela packaging. Our Samarité packaging also won awards, and we received the Swiss Packaging Award in the “Design” category for the Gottlieber “Royal Edition”.
More attractive
To make us even more attractive as an employer, we have invested in further training for our employees: The internal “PAWI Knowhow” initiative promotes knowledge transfer and personal growth, which strengthens the motivation and innovative power of our teams. In addition, the sociocratic group organisation was successfully introduced in Singen, leading to more efficient decision-making, transparent communication and greater personal responsibility.
More international
Our internationalisation strategy has gained momentum: Close collaboration between our three locations in Winterthur, Singen and Warsaw has enabled us to strengthen our European presence and increase efficiency. Our first joint appearance at CosmeticBusiness in Munich, where we opened new business areas in the cosmetics and health sector, was particularly successful.
Smarter
We have made important progress around digitalisation and efficiency enhancement. The digital optimisation of our processes and the expansion of the lean production system in all plants increase our flexibility. At the Singen site, we are also working on production planning using artificial intelligence to ensure even more precise delivery dates and greater efficiency.
Despite economic challenges, we can close the year on a successful note with stable sales figures. Our goal remains to continue providing our clients with the best possible support in the form of sustainable packaging and innovative solutions. We look forward with confidence to the coming years, in which we will continue to optimise our processes, increase efficiency and set new standards.
Finally, we would like to thank all our employees, clients and suppliers for their commitment and trust they have placed in us.
With festive greetings,
The PAWI Group
