A look behind the scenes of a traditional business in Schwyz
When we visited Café Konditorei Ryser in Schwyz in autumn 2024, one thing was immediately apparent: handicraft is still a real passion here, and you can sense it in every detail. During our visit, the Ryser family took the time to introduce us to their business and provide insight into the special world of a traditional yet dynamic café.
The path from small café to regional institution
The story of Café Ryser began with a bold step. Back then, the business was still called “Lampieti” and had no successor. The Ryser family bravely decided to take it over. The start was far from easy. Nevertheless, they firmly believed in their recipes and skills. Step by step, they rebuilt the café.
Over time, the business grew. Today, the café is an integral part of Schwyz and is well known beyond the region. The team looks back proudly on what they have achieved. The combination of tradition, quality, and personal commitment gives the café its unique character.
What makes Schwyz so special – and what the region brings to Café Ryser
Schwyz is a place to which the Rysers are consciously and strongly attached. Regional products are an important part of the café’s offering, and they showed us how carefully they select the ingredients. One example of this is Felchlin chocolate – a regional delicacy that sets hearts racing in Schwyz. It was particularly impressive to hear how the Rysers strive to earn the trust of their guests and preserve the traditional flavours of the region.
For the first visit – a recommendation
The Rysers know how important the first experience in a café is and have their recommendation ready – the delicious house chocolate, a treat that is even more enjoyable in the café’s cosy atmosphere, is an absolute must. As a family business, Café Ryser attaches great importance not only to the quality of the produce, but also to the way it treats its guests – the family feel and the dedicated team, which has hardly ever changed, make for an intimate ambience in which everyone feels welcome.
Our café is like home to us – and that is exactly how we want to welcome our guests: warmly, personally and with great attention to detail.

Handicraft with tradition and modern influences
During our tour, we got a close look at the bakery. It became clear how tradition and innovation come together. The bread-making process is especially fascinating. It is made almost without yeast and requires a lot of time. This allows an aromatic sourdough to develop.
Sustainability also plays an important role. That’s why production ends at 5 PM. Only what is really needed is baked. In this way, the café sends a clear message against food waste.
A glimpse into the future – the café in the best hands
One special moment during our visit was the chat about the future of the business. The next generation is ready to carry on the café business and continue the legacy of the Ryser family. For the Rysers, it is important that the business remain true to its character and always be run with the same dedication with which it all began. The family remains open to change and trends, without losing sight of the essentials – respect for its guests and a love of handicraft.
For us, tradition does not mean standing still; it is about the art of combining proven recipes with new ideas so that we can offer our guests the best of both worlds.
