Enjoyment from the cardboard tray
Practical, resealable and made of carton – discover the innovative family pack of the popular Kägi fret mini chocolate wafers from Switzerland.
The Kägi fret mini family pack takes a new approach: With carton packaging for chocolate wafers, we replace the previous combination with plastic blister by a fully carton-based solution. The interaction between inner and outer packaging made of recyclable carton improves product protection, handling and recyclability.
Product protection and handling
At the core of the development is an inner carton with integrated partitions. These separate the wafers, prevent sticking and protect the product during transport and handling. At the same time, they enable clear portioning.
The carton tray can be used directly as a serving solution. The products can be easily removed and presented in the tray. Afterwards, the tray can be pushed back into the outer packaging, allowing space-saving storage.
The plastic film surrounding the chocolate wafers remains necessary for shelf life, product protection and hygiene.
Sustainability and logistics
The packaging follows a clear sustainability approach: both inner and outer packaging are made of recyclable carton. In addition, a water-based, food-safe barrier coating is used. The carton insert replaces the previous U-shape and reduces the plastic content.
Compared to conventional plastic blisters, recyclability is improved and the material mix is simplified.
There are also advantages in logistics: the unglued construction is delivered flat and erected automatically at the customer’s site. This reduces transport volume, storage space and associated emissions.
For Kägi, PAWI means Swissmade quality, mutual trust and long-standing cooperation.

Design and production implementation
Outer and inner packaging are visually aligned and reflect the Kägi brand world. The printed insert featuring the Churfirsten mountains creates a link to the brand’s origin and strengthens recognition. In addition, a slightly embossed logo adds a subtle tactile element.
The carton packaging for chocolate wafers is designed for automated processing. The insert is delivered flat and erected precisely during the forming process, including the partitions. This enables efficient filling with high process reliability and consistent quality.
In use, the functionality becomes clear: the tear-open perforation allows easy opening, the packaging can be reclosed, and the carton tray serves as both a serving and storage solution. The packaging therefore meets the requirements of both retail and consumers.
