Chocolate manufacturer Guylian relies on eco-sensitive inserts
We’re all familiar with them – the plastic inserts that give our chocolate sweets the necessary support. They come in different shapes and colours. But they have one thing in common: in the industrial sector, these inserts have almost always been made of plastic. Chocolaterie Guylian is taking a pioneering step here and equipping its delicacies with modern and environmentally friendly cardboard inserts.
Everyday objects and consumer goods made of plastic are gradually being replaced by more sustainable alternatives. Packaging is no exception, and the demand for cardboard and paper solutions has experienced a real boom in recent years.
Now, finally, plastic inserts in chocolate packaging are also going to be replaced with our cardboard solutions. Chocolaterie Guylian is the first major chocolate manufacturer we persuaded of the benefits of our new solution. The requirements were stringent: The existing packaging could not be changed and the insert had to be designed in such a way that it could be inserted quickly and easily and ensure a safe production process.
The new product now replaces the previous plastic insert and the use of cardboard and paper makes it 100% recyclable. The integrated vertical connection inside the insert guarantees the necessary stability. The insert has an impressive high-quality appearance and enhances the product. The choice of paper and cardboard opens up numerous options in terms of colour. The available selection for choosing the right colour is significantly larger than for conventional plastic inserts. For Guylian, we were able to create a version in a sophisticated brown tone that harmonises perfectly with the contents: The chocolates lie as if nestled in a cushion, ready to be presented and tasted.
