For the sale of freshly roasted chicken, we developed a paperboard tray that preserves product quality while significantly simplifying the packaging process. This hot food packaging solution keeps the skin crispy, retains flavour, and improves handling at the point of sale.
Initial situation: quality loss and complex packaging process
Previously, the chicken was placed in a PET tray and then sealed in a bag with a viewing window. In this closed packaging system, meat juices accumulated, causing the skin to lose its crispiness. At the same time, seasoning and flavours were largely lost into the liquid.
The solution: functionally designed paperboard tray
We developed a paperboard hot food tray specifically designed for freshly prepared, hot takeaway products.
An integrated absorbent pad captures escaping juices, while ventilation slots reduce condensation and support air circulation. This keeps the surface of the chicken crispy, while flavour and seasoning remain directly on the product.
At the same time, the sturdy paperboard construction ensures safe transport. The material is suitable for direct contact with hot foods and supports a premium presentation at the point of sale.
More efficient handling at the point of sale
The chicken is packed directly into the tray immediately after roasting. Additional packaging components such as plastic trays and bags are no longer required, reducing the process to a single step.
This simplifies handling, speeds up packing, and reduces the risk of errors. At the same time, material complexity and packaging components are significantly reduced compared to the previous solution.
